Harriet’s Girls is reaching back and serving others! In 2006, 2007, and 2008, we fed the homeless in McPherson Square on Thanksgiving morning in Washington, DC and participated in Gorgeous Prince George’s Day. In 2007 and 2008, we fed the homeless for the Prince George’s County “Warm Nights” program, we completed sewing, decoupage, dance, quilting, scrapbooking and ceramic enrichment programs, visited the Holocaust and Native American museums, studied Apartheid and the genocide that occurred in Rwanda, participated walks for “Relay for Life”, “National Make a Difference Day”, “Maryland Emancipation Day”, "Stomp Out Sickle Cell", and "End Poverty", hosted an “Empty Bowls” fundraiser, had successful summers working hard onmission trips in the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica, and adopted 20 families from four schools in Prince George’s County for this Christmas.
We accomplished our goals for the 2008 mission trip in Negril and Montego Bay, Jamaica! We were an integral part of delivering life changing blessings to a large number of Jamaican citizens. We provided 850 pounds of clothing and shoes, 100 pounds of books, 100 pounds of toys, 100 pounds of rice, 30 gallons of oil, and 100 pounds of toiletry items. We also donated fruit trees, clothing, shoes, toiletries, and money to the athletic department at Green Island High School. We visited and made contributions to Blossom Garden Orphanage, Miss Enid, The Miller Family,and Kendal Holy Temple Church. ONE LOVE!
We accomplished our goals for the 2009 mission trip in Trinidad! The girls had an awesome experience, and are thankful for the support of the Central Bank of Trinidad & Tobago. We provided more than 1,800 pounds of clothing and shoes, Bibles, books, school supplies, toys, sporting goods, and toiletry items. We made donations to Southern Academy, St. Mary's Children's Home, more than 75 orpahans at our field day event, and sponsored five families at Mt. Elvin Baptist Church.
